2026 IHLRN Conference
"LIVING THE SPIRIT OF SATIR"
NOVEMBER 15-20

Spirit In The Desert Retreat Center
Carefree (Phoenix), Arizona
2026 Spirit In The Desert Lodge 602x374

Virginia Satir’s pioneering work with individuals and families reflected her deep belief in people’s innate goodness and their potential for growth and change. She was a humanistic visionary whose work sparked decades of teaching, training, and transforming people and communities. Through experiential techniques she emphasized the importance of self-esteem, healthy communication, and the influence of family systems on individual well-being. Her legacy invites us to embody peace within ourselves, in our relationships, and in the systems we touch.

In the stark beauty and quiet wisdom of the desert, near Phoenix, we gather to explore what it truly means tolive the spirit of Satir.  As the world wrestles with uncertainty and disconnection, this conference calls us to return to the core of Satir’s vision — creating harmony from the inside out.

Through experiential workshops, shared stories, and community connection, we will deepen our understanding of Satir’s principles and explore how they live in us today. Whether you are a long-time practitioner, newly inspired by Satir, or interested in exploring this work for the first time, you will find space to learn, renew, and contribute.

The Spirit in the Desert Retreat Center in Carefree, Arizona is a 50-minute ride northeast from Phoenix.

International Human Learning Resources Network (IHLRN)
is an organization founded in 1969 by Virginia Satir, a pioneer in the field of family therapy. She wanted to bring together colleagues from around the world who were interested in exploring humanistic approaches. This network evolved into a unique community in which people could share their expertise, learn from each other, try out new ideas and be together in a group that was welcoming, and embraced the uniqueness of each individual. These week long conferences have been held for over 50 years.
